We invite and encourage you to engage your faith as you engage with your studies - with intentionality, curiosity, and a desire to know God more deeply. EMORY KING WEEK

Emory University King Week is a series of programs offered in January by various Emory units to honor the life and legacy of The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement. Programs include educational lectures, spiritual services, community service projects, celebrations, and exhibits.


EMORY'S DAY ON
Monday, January 16 - Secure your spot and learn more
Emory’s Day On honors the work, legacy, and values of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. As always, we will meet at 11:00 a.m. for our kickoff with food, t-shirts, and speeches and check-in for specific trips. The day concludes with the return of our shuttles around 4:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Office of Civic and Community Engagement.
 

WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY
January 18 - 25, 2023
The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity (
WPCU) has a history of over 100 years, in which Christians around the world have taken part in an octave of prayer for visible Christian unity.  By annually observing the WPCU, Christians move toward the fulfillment of Jesus' prayer at the Last Supper "that they all may be one" (John 17:21).


9 DAYS FOR LIFE NOVENA

The annual pro-life novena, 9 Days for Life, starts on Wednesday, January 19! Invite your friends and family to join you and thousands of Catholics in prayer for the protection of human life. 
Each day’s intention is accompanied by a short reflection and suggested actions to help build a culture of life.


34TH ANNUAL ARCHDIOCESAN MASS FOR THE PRE-BORN
Friday, January 20 at 10:00 AM - Holy Spirit Catholic Church
Join Bishop Konzen for the Annual Mass for the Preborn at Holy Spirit Catholic Church (4465 Northside Dr., Atlanta, GA 30327) at 10:00 AM. A rosary will be prayed at 9:30 AM.
 

2023 GEORGIA MARCH FOR LIFE, MEMORIAL SERVICE, AND RALLY
Friday, January 20 at 12:00 PM - Liberty Plaza
Gather at 12:00 PM at Liberty Plaza on Friday, January 20, 2023, to mourn the more than 63 million children denied the chance at life, and to pray for the women and men whose lives have been damaged by abortion.

EVENING OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY
Monday, January 23 at 7:00 PM - Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church
The annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity reminds us of Jesus’ prayer for his disciples, “that they may be one so that the world may believe” (see John 17.21). Hearts are touched as Christians come together to pray for unity. Join us for an evening of prayer and fellowship on Monday, January 23, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church (2855 Briarcliff Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30329). There will be prayer, music, fellowship with local lay faithful, and pastors of different Christian confessions. Light refreshments will be served.

The Pro-life Movement is uniting under one banner in Georgia! Take a stand with us to love moms and defend the preborn. One of our Atlanta bishops will be in attendance. This will take place at the State Capitol building on Thursday, February 9, beginning at 1:00 PMRSVP on the website.


THE WAY FOR WOMEN: A HEALING RETREAT FOR FEMALE SURVIVORS OF ABUSE

The Way for Women is a three-day retreat for adult female survivors of abuse offered by the Archdiocese of Atlanta’s Victim Assistance Program March 24-26 at Sautee Mountain Retreat in Clarksville, GA. The registration deadline is March 16.


ECHO YOUNG ADULT RETREAT

ECHO is a truly unique Catholic retreat experience, rooted in St. John Paul II’s Theology of the Body. Combining dynamic talks, prayer and sacraments, daily Mass and Adoration, small group discussions, artistic expression, and authentic community, ECHO takes participants on a journey to answer the deepest questions of the human heart. Questions such as: Who am I? What is my vocation? How can I truly find happiness? What is God’s plan for my life? Last year more than 150 young adults attended! WORLD YOUTH DAY 2023
July 28 - August 9, 2023 - More info and registration for the World Youth Day trip
World Youth Day (WYD) is the gathering of young people from all over the world with the Pope. It is also a pilgrimage, a celebration of youth, an expression of the universal Church, and an intense moment of evangelization for the youth world. The Archdiocese of Atlanta will be leading a pilgrimage from July 28 - August 9 for young adults 18 years of age and older. We are excited to announce that we have received a $4,000 Catholic Community Grant from the Catholic Foundation of North Georgia for the Fall 2022 cycle! Many thanks to the CFNGA Grant Committee for enabling our ministry to provide a more welcoming and hospitable environment for our students to gather for prayer and study at the University Catholic Center.
 
 
ULTIMATE FRISBEE COACH NEEDED AT BENJAMIN FRANKLIN ACADEMY
Do you or somebody you know play ultimate frisbee and have an interest in a paid coaching position at a high school within walking distance from Emory? Benjamin Franklin Academy needs a part-time Ultimate Frisbee Coach for three late afternoon practices a week, late afternoon games, and Saturday games (to include Round Robins Games). Apply here! PETITION TO REPEAL THE DEATH PENALTY IN GEORGIA
Georgia’s next legislative session begins on January 10. Georgia Catholics Against the Death Penalty are collecting signatures from the Catholics of our state to present to the chair of the Judiciary Non-Civil Committee to urge them to support legislation that would repeal the death penalty in Georgia. In September, Pope Francis asked all people of goodwill to mobilize to abolish the death penalty. Now is the time for Georgia Catholics to mobilize for the protection of human life and dignity in our laws. Sign the petition here!


THE NATIONAL EUCHARISTIC REVIVAL
The Bishops of the United States have started a three-year plan to revive and foster Eucharistic devotion in the hearts of the faithful. This movement hopes to heal, convert, form, and unify Catholics by encountering Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. Visit the National Eucharistic Revival website for more information.

If you or someone you know is pregnant, the University Catholic Center is always a place to find care, support, and resources. You can contact our staff and they will be able to receive your story and journey with you. There are also a number of organizations you can support that directly assist these women.
