Medical Students for Life Seminar
Understanding Trauma to Better Serve Women Experiencing Crisis Pregnancies
Tuesday, November 16 @ 7 - 8 PM - School of Medicine Room 312
While the topic of abortion has become highly politicized, the women facing this decision bear the burden of potential trauma, exposure, and shame. Informing and equipping future medical professionals and community members who work with women in this vulnerable position about the effects of trauma, how it can manifest, and practical ways to respond can help them better empathize with women and more effectively provide resources and improved care for their situation. Our seminar will be presented by Elle Preston, a student at Richmond Graduate University where she is seeking a master's degree in clinical and mental health counseling.
Fellowship & Adoration Night
The Fellowship and Adoration Night is a student-led bible study focused on growing in faith and experiencing Christ's presence in our lives through the practice of adoring the Eucharist.
Donation Drive with the Catholic Student Union
Now until December 1st, 2021
Until the beginning of December, the Catholic Student Union is sponsoring a donation drive for the local Saint Vincent de Paul thrift store. We will be collecting items such as clothes, shoes, jewelry, books, dishes, glassware, utensils, kitchen appliances, cookware, toys/games, and linens. Donation boxes are located at Cannon Chapel, the University Catholic Center, the ESC, Eagle Hall, and Woodruff Residential Center.
March for Life 2022 in Washington, D.C.

Introducing the Synod on Synodality
A Letter from The Most Rev. Gregory J. Hartmayer, OFM Conv.
We have been invited to participate in an unprecedented moment in our Church’s history beginning this fall. On Sunday, Oct. 10, Pope Francis opened a two-year process called the Synod on Synodality (For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation and Mission) that will uniquely engage not only Catholics but God’s people all over the world. I want to personally encourage you, your family, and all those who are dear to you to join with me and our brothers and sisters in north and central Georgia on this extraordinary journey of faith. About the Synod on Synodality
A key question to help focus this process is: A synodal Church, in announcing the Gospel, “journeys together.” How is this “journeying together” happening today in your local Church? What steps does the Spirit invite us to take to grow in “journeying together”? In the coming months, we will be invited to participate in a listening session, submitting answers to a survey, or taking time to listen to the whispers of the Holy Spirit. In the meantime, please consider reading the preparatory documents for the Synod and other supporting materials.
Adsumus, Sancte Spiritus
Every session of the Second Vatican Council began with the prayer Adsumus Sancte Spiritus, the first word of the Latin original meaning, “We stand before You, Holy Spirit,” which has been historically used at Councils, Synods and other Church gatherings for hundreds of years, being attributed to Saint Isidore of Seville (c. 560 - 4 April 636). We will be praying this prayer at the end of our Sunday Masses during the Synodal process and we invite you to pray it on your own!

About Black Catholic History Month
On July 24, 1990, the National Black Catholic Clergy Caucus of the United States designated November as Black Catholic History Month to celebrate the long history and proud heritage of Black Catholics. Two commemorative dates fall within this month, Saint Augustine’s Birthday (November 13) and Saint Martin de Porres’ Feast Day (November 3). More importantly, November not only marks a time when we pray for all saints and souls in loving remembrance but also a time to recall the saints and souls of Africa and the African Diaspora. On the Road to Sainthood: Leaders of African Descent
Venerable Augustus Tolton was the first U.S. Roman Catholic priest publicly known to be black when he was ordained in 1886. A former slave who was baptized and reared Catholic, Tolton formally studied in Rome. He was ordained in Rome on Easter Sunday at the Archbasilica of St. John Lateran. Fr. Tolton led the development and construction of St. Monica’s Catholic Church as a black "National Parish Church”, which was completed in 1893. Tolton’s success at ministering to black Catholics quickly earned him national attention within the Catholic hierarchy. “Good Father Gus,” as many called him, was known for his eloquent sermons, his beautiful singing voice, and his talent for playing the accordion. He is the subject of the 1973 biography from Slave to Priest by Sister Caroline Hemesath. For more information on Fr. Augustus' cause, check out the website for his cause.
